Happy V.I. Day!

Post by L K Day »

The war in Iraq is over, and we won. Now let's have a slow, orderly withdrawal in order to preserve the victory. It's time to lift a cold one in toast to the troops, then double our determination to eliminate al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Party on!

Only difference is, Obama insisted we accept defeat and pack up early. Now just wind down the American presense slowly, Barak. It would be a shame to hand the country over to what few insurgents remain in hiding.

That's a silly statement. When did Barak ever say "let's accept defeat?"
There are plenty of insurgents in hiding. Let the Iraqis fight their own battles for once. Our country is bankrupt from rebuilding their country and they have a trillion dollar surplus. Not a good use of my tax dollars to pay for their garbage trucks and other infrastructure.

No, he never said he was "for defeat". But he opposed the route to victory, which was "the surge", and denied it's effectiveness when it was obvious that the surge was working. None of that matters now. We've won.

What matters now is whether he meant what he said about going after al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Won what? The surge only "works" while you are occupying the country. Barak is looking at long term success, not permanent occupation of Iraq--which is the only real way to keep the civil war at bay (unless the Iraqis start running their own country and have their soldiers in harms way instead of ours). As long as we are there spending our money and sacrificing our soldiers, the Iraqis have no reason to step up.

You're a bit behind the times. The Iraqis are running their own country and their soldiers are taking the lead in virtually all operations, with U.S. troops serving as backup. I'm not saying we should continue to occupy Iraq for 50 years like we have Germany and Japan. :D We'll be out soon enough.

I think he means that he's satisfied with the extent of the genocide.

Talk to the people actually over there--when there is real danger--our guys have to take care of it--the Iraqis puss out.
