Hugh, your best bet is to suck it up and get a Mac. More up front cost, but way better performance and reliability, and it'll last you years and years longer than a PC with WAY fewer headaches. I use both Mac and PC, but only because I am forced to use PCs. Night and day difference. Mac is a much better investment.

Get an iMac. They are actually very affordable. You probably qualify for a student discount, too. Oh, and don't add extra RAM when you order the Mac. You can get memory cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks Pru, and everyone. I am sensing a strong advocacy for Macs. Will take under advisement.
Free health care for everyone (provided you are <40, have an LDL <60, bp <110/70 and have no pre existing conditions and no significant family history, and, oh yeah, no crazy bitches... other than that, I am taking patients.

Free health care!
<40 -- 65, but I can lie about my age
LDL< 60 -- check
BP < 110/70 -- check
No crazy bitches -- Wait, no way I can fake people out on that one. Oh well, there goes my free health care.

Sorry the original post was meant to be a PM. My error.
