Can't agree with you more Canadiangirl. Katie and both feel a sense of helplessness. Thoughts and prayers to both families and our extended family in the Red.

Were they doing a multi-pitch route? I'm still trying to understand what could have happened to result in 2 deaths, it seems like an unlikely thing.

http://www.kentucky.com/181/story/581807.html gives you a brief description. it says they were at emerald city im guessing they were either climbing the route scarecrow a 10c or white out a 5.8 which are the only 2 multi pitch routes at emerald city. very sorry for the losses

i am in shock. they were both great people, i'll remember their smiles and the time we shared together. Laura asked me to make her a CD a couple months ago, i never did it...i listened to it today to help cope.

Still getting the facts. All information other than they were found at Global Village around Whiteout/Curtain/Friable is preliminary. Seems an anchor failed, they both fell.

That is what I just told the Herald Leader and all any of us know. I have not been on site so take everything I say and everything you read there with a grain of salt.

Again. Please don't turn this into pages of questions and discussions other than remembering two kids many of us cared about.

This is just horrible. I didn't know them but I am sure they were great people. My heart goes out to both families and all friends.

I know there are always lot of questions, but in the end, maybe the exact answers are not so important, all that really matters is something went wrong, and the consequences are severe. And that, to me, is the lessen to take away from any accident. So, please, let's leave any talk about details or questions about what happened on the back burner for now. There will be plenty of time to talk about those after some time has passed.

Until then, this thread will be heavily moderated out of respect for those involved.
