I think some lifting is essential to remaining injury free if you want to climb hard.

As stated earlier, definitely work opposing muscles, all the pushing motions, instead of pulling, and high reps will tone you up with out bulking up too much. The best exercises for me seem to be any kind of machine that works the shoulders, since they tend to become extremely unbalanced and injury prone from just climbing alone.

sharma doesn't lift. and he ties a figure 8. I'd listen to him instead of shamis.

The kids orginal post indicated he couldn't climb very much and wanted an alternative. And Sharma's a closet bowline tying, weight lifter anyway.
