Looking for partners - 10/4 to 10/25 + practical questions

Post by dav6id9 »

hi

I'm planning on climbing at the RRG and eventually at the NRG for 3 weeks from 10/4 to 10/25.

I'm looking at plane tickets right now and don't know if I should be flying into lexington or charleston given the fact that I plan on hitch-hiking from the airport to the gorge.
Any suggestions?

The camping looks pretty easy in both spots so I'm not really worried about it.
Is it easy to get food?

So now I'm looking for partners to climb with. :-)
Anyone interested?
Eventually, d'you have any contacts for me?

And last but not least...I'm french so I don't know much about those 2 places, is it worth staying 3 weeks around?

Cheers,
david

PS: I don't carry any trad rack nor crash-pad...damn airplanes restrictions on luggages!!!

As long as you can give a mean hj, transportation shouldn't be an issue.

There's a good pizza place that I think also has camping. Ask around, somebody down there will know what I'm talking about.

Good luck with the trip :D I haven't been to nrg but there's plenty of climbing to justify hanging around for 3 weeks.

-- also, I don't know how close the airport will be to lexington or wherever, but you should post a new thread that you need a ride when you know the exact date you are arriving.

I think you are better off flying into lexington or even cincinnati, and arranging ahead of time for a climber to pick you up. Then, while you are at the red, you can work on getting a ride to the NRG.

And it is definitely worth it. But you might just find yourself wanting to stay at the RRG the whole time.

The Lexington airport is about an hour away from the Gorge (the Red River Gorge that is), 60 miles or so. You could probably catch a ride with one of the many climbers from Lexington, rather than hitch hike. There’s whole bunch that head down there every weekend. This would give you a partner and you’d have a better chance of getting to the Gorge instead of whatever happens to missing hitchhikers.

I imagine that you could spend the entire fall climbing at the Gorge. Camp at Miguel’s. They have good food and that will be the easiest place to find climbing partners.

Feel free to send me a PM and I can climb with you a time or two, but I generally only make it out one day on the weekend.
