Sorry I never got back with you on this, Rick. A week after posting, my friend had a pretty major set back. His ankle had been sore for a long time; but that is to be expected given his injuries and resulting surgeries. Long story short, things got much worse unexpectedly and they ended up having to take the hardware out and start him on hardcore antibiotics because and infection made its way into the bone. Things are better now, not great. Still up in the air if that took care of the issue; but I doubt he'll be doing any hiking around before winter time.
Hope your friend will be able to climb again in the Spring. Let us know when you want to drive into the Valley.
