I'd have to agree Mr. Day. Since when does the US EVER pick a president based on what the rest of the world wants?

Do we vote for their heads of state? Didn't think so, so shut the hell up peoples of the world.

I have to compliment the McCain campaign - yesterday they released a detailed, insightful economic plan to help America out of it's current financial problems. It sought to counter Obama's strong plan, and did so without distortions or lies.

Oh, wait - no, they launched a media campaign distorting the fact that Obama called their plan "a pig in lipstick".

This from the campaign representing a man who lashed out at his current wife when she joked about his thinning hair - he called her a "trollop" (boy, that's not dated) and upped himself by then calling her "a cunt."

Here's the video of McCain's non-denial when a Baptist minister tried to give him the opportunity to "clarify" (or even just lie about) the situation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOl4iT46Eec
Q: ... Is it true that you called your wife a (expletive)?

McCain: Now, now. You don't want to... Um, you know that's the great thing about town hall meetings, sir, but we really don't, there's people here who don't respect that kind of language. So I'll move on to the next questioner in the back.
I can only assume that the McCain campaign has so much confidence in their "relationship" with the major media to feel that trying this "pig/lipstick" play won't cause them to report on the "cunt" incident.

And when the twelfth largest company in the world controls the most awesome goddamned propaganda force in the whole godless world, who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on this tube? So, listen to me! Television is not the truth! Television is a goddamned amusement park, that's what television is! Television is a circus, a carnival, a travelling troupe of acrobats and story-tellers, singers and dancers, jugglers, side-show freaks, lion tamers and football players. We're in the boredom-killing business! If you want truth, go to God, go to your guru, go to yourself because that's the only place you'll ever find any real truth! But, man, you're never going to get any truth from us. We'll tell you anything you want to hear. We lie like hell! We'll tell you Kojack always gets the killer, and nobody ever gets cancer in Archie Bunker's house. And no matter how much trouble the hero is in, don't worry: just look at your watch at the end of the hour, he's going to win. We'll tell you any shit you want to hear! We deal in illusion, man! None of it's true! But you people sit there-- all of you -- day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds -- we're all you know. You're beginning to believe this illusion we're spinning here! You're beginning to think the tube is reality and your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you. You dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you think like the tube.
This is mass madness, you maniacs!
In God's name, you people are the real thing!
We're the illusions!
So turn off this goddamn set!
Turn it off right now!
Turn it off and leave it off!
Turn it off right now, right in the middle of this very sentence I'm speaking now --

Yep - McCain's got nothing. The economy, education, healthcare. Jack shit.

But he can tell you about his time as a POW. Palin can make you laugh as she looks you in the eye and tells you she opposed "the Bridge to Nowhere"

They can smile and wave, standing together on stage. Real Mavericks!

Of course, just a couple of months ago, McCain said something very interesting about Palin's favorite bridge...
I think there is a long, long list of earmarks which went to unnecessary and unwanted projects that I think should have gone to the bridge in Minnesota ... I don't know whether it would have gone or not, but if you're spending $223 million on a bridge in Alaska to an island with 50 people on it ...
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2 ... 7828_x.htm

McCain put two and two together - the $223 million in pork that Palin gladly took for nothing from Washington could have been spent to repair the bridges that you and I and our families drive over all the time.

Of course, McCain could talk about the economy. The only problem is that his plan keeps taxes low on the richest folks and keeps the tax burden on your shoulders and mine. He could talk about fixing our banking and mortgage system, but one of his top economic advisor is Phil Gramm - You know, the guy who called us all "whiners" on the economy. Well, as a top lobbyist and a vice-chair of a Swiss bank, I'm sure he has little to whine about. But Gramm literally wrote the law that opened the door for Enron to go wild, and then collapse. Gramm bested that by both writing the deregulation law and then became a lobbyist to push for the deregulation that created the current mortgage crisis. On top of that, McCain was against the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac bailout before he was for it.

McCain fixing the economy? Well, we could cut more taxes on the rich and corporations, and we could further deregulate... Other than that, what's to fix - McCain's wife and rich friends are doing fine! Thanks for asking!

Just to show how bankrupt the campaign is, they've started running a TV ad claiming that Obama wrote legislation in Illinois to require sex ed for kindergartners. A total, pure pack of lies:
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008 ... ex_ed.html
The reality is that Obama didn't write or sponsor the bill, and in reality it didn't "teach sex ed to kindergartners" it actually worked to protect them from sexual preadators!

The amazing thing is that McCain is just how deep he's burying himself in shit here. The guy who started telling that exact lie: Alan Keyes:
Image
Yep - one of the few truly insane people in American politics. Keyes made this shit up when he was trying to run against Obama for Senate in Illinois. Despite being the official Republican candidate, he had no funding, so he couldn't afford TV commercials. Instead, he would come up with batshit insane stuff to get on the news. This lie was one of the worst.

And John McCain, out of his love for and duty to America, has picked it up and run with it. Fucking disgusting. He doesn't need "528s" - he's running crazy smears and lies himself.
I'm John McCain and I approve this message.
Remember how McCain is a "reformer" - that message is required by his own McCain–Feingold Act. Now he's saying those words approving disgusting, unambiguous lies.

McCain could talk about his healthcare plan, except that within a minute or so of hearing it, anyone will realize what a useless mess it is. McCain's health insurance plan:
http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Iss ... b527cf.htm
Step 1 - start taxing everyone's health insurance premiums...
Step 2 - talk about how it would be nice if insurance were less expensive
Step 3 - encourage people to stop smoking and eat better to reduce chronic illness costs
Step 4 - Uh, I'll have someone on my staff get back to you on that...

And just as soon as McCain comes up with a plan for education, he'll start talking about that instead of lipstick.

Yep - McCain's got nothing but smears and distractions.

Some maverick. At least he should have had the balls to tell how many houses he had instead of the lame "I'll have to have a staffer get back to you."

So it is forbidden for a "maverick" to marry a rich person? This is really just some incredibly stupid gotcha stuff. McCain apparently had some difficulty with the question " How many homes do you and Mrs. McCain own?", because he doesn't actually own any homes, and couldn't accurately say how many houses (including condos) that Mrs. McCain owns, alone and or in partnership with her kids, and the trusts and companies she and her kids control. The gotcha number was seven. But at last count that number is now up to eight. Somehow I suspect that McCain very likely doesn't much know, or care, exactly how rich his wife is because they signed a pre-nuptial, and he doesn't have claim to her riches.
