The Reader (in production for a movie release in Dec) - wonderfully written novel about the post-Holocaust generations comprehending the crimes of loved ones and dealing with the associated guilt.

The Dark Tower Series, by Stephen King

I just finish the second book, The Drawing of the Three, and they are really good. I can't wait to read the rest of them. If you enjoy Stephen King's writing, he claims this series to be his masterpiece. Read them now because talks about the movie have already begun.

Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, And Why / True Stories of Miraculous Endurance And Sudden Death by Laurance Gonzalez ought to get a mention somewhere in this forum.
Gonzalez reads pretty smoothly and has some interesting insights into the outdoor adventurer's mind. He uses a lot of examples that summarize some other good reads like Into the Wild, Touching the Void, and Into Thin Air.
Interesting perspective and a pretty quick read.
