Whats up with leaving Gear???

Placing a cam? Slotting a nut? Slinging a tree?

You're climbing a route and come upon gear, what do you do?

Whats up with leaving Gear???

Post by sendit »

Lots of recently left trad gear got me thinking...
.5 cam on 'get on the good foot'
a trango cam on 'double caves crack'

and I found a yellow friend on environmental impact a couple weeks ago that I claim as proper booty.

What's your take on booty?

I'd take it but if I heard it belonged to so and so I'd almost certainly return it. I might have to think about it if it was stuck really bad and it took forever to get it out.

Take it.

If it belongs to someone you don't know, and they ask nicely, give it back.

If it belongs to someone close to you, and they demand it back, keep it for sure.

You know you have been on here too long when you see a thread for the 100th time.

I usually just clip it, and leave it behind. Who knows how long its been there.

However, if it was a shiny new piece and I had no idea who left it there I'd take it. I'd give it back if I found the original owner, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to track them down.

If it's a viable peice, take it. The person who left it saw it fit to give up, so be it.
