Ascentionist... you're absolutely correct, if you're speaking from the point of view of a 5.9 climber. Everything below 5.10 in the Red is basically a chosspile. Colorado is a much better gumby training arena.

Colorado sucks. Black canyon: choss. Rifle: polished ass grease. Flatirons: Too easy Eldo: Only decent area but ethic ruins it. A rule against placing new bolts is retarded, but a rule against replacing bolts that are already there is almost George Bush retarded. Boulder: Overpriced awful place to live. Denver: Too many minorities.

Ok so the red river gorge and the new river gorge are the two best sport climbing areas in the country..yes? Both with very limited good climbing seasons because of shitty weather right? Well the weather aside - Columbus, Ohio is exactly 4 hours away from both those climbing areas and so Cbus is the best place to live in the US if you are truly a "sport" climber.

The towns actually have to be towns too, not just a subway and a shell...

priest draw is 5 minutes from flagstaff, and there are lots of other bouldering spots close by. i think flag is a spectacular climbing town

Lexington's complete lack of any real bouldering kind of kills any chance of being a climbing town.

Chattanooga does seem like a pretty great climbing destination even though I've only hit a couple of the spots around there. There is just so much rock in nearly every direction...

I think west virginia probably has the most untapped rock in the east though. Have you ever noticed that when driving to seneca you'll see dozeons of little seneca's in the distance that nobody except maybe the locals know anything about?

I may very well have left the best climbing town though. Las Vegas. The proximity to great climbing in every direction really makes it stand out in my mind. You've got great sport routes 20 minutes away, good bouldering 20 minutes away, awesome trad routes 20 minutes away. Nice limestone 40 minutes away, and within a 5-7 hour radius you've got most of the best climbing destinations in the country (barring colorado and a few others).

I have agree with Shamis on that one. Vegas is the best climbing town in the US. If you are an average 5.10 - 5.12 climber you'll have a lifetime of year round climb living in Vegas. Dude what where you thinking moving to Lexington.
