We saw a rattler out at Backside a couple months ago- got a good look and listen, and they don't sound like them rattlesnakes from the movies. Reminded me of television static. All of those Hollywood sound effects got us duped!

Definitely seen more copperheads over the years. And yeah come to think of it the one rattler I saw was on a rock ledge.

Only seen 2. One on the ground (BIG one near Rock Wars), and a baby on Cavers Route.

Good call. I finally looked at the pictures i took(couldn't make em out on the viewfinder) and it actually was a bat. Silly me. It sounded more like a rattler than anything else i could think of. I had no idea they could make noises like that.

You can just make out the pissed off bat hiding back in the back.of the crack:

Of course.. sleeping bats are often confused with rattlesnakes-

Fortress does turn into bat country around dusk, which isn't a moment too soon if you ask me.

Bats are very beneficial to the environment. They eat pretty much only mosquitoes, beetles, and moths. And they eat an amazing quantity of these every night.
