Whether sport or trad, since you've got the guidebook just look for a north-facing crag or the spiffie 'shade' icon.

Muir Valley will be great if enjoy steep hikes at the end of the day in the heat; and crowds. Get there early if that is your choice.

A lot of the classic areas (crags north of the parkway) don't see quite as much traffic anymore.

Basically - it's all good. Can't really go wrong no matter what you choose.

If you don't mind a little bit of a hike in also, Pistol Ridge might be an ok place. There's a 5.7, 5.8 and a 5.9 (sport) and then a fun, short and easy 5.10a. You could probably do nearly all the lines there. And the 5.9 has some good exposure and is kind of long.

pistol ridge is fun - but the 10a is not easy.

recommended climbing list:

the shire (7, 8, 9+ - could possibly set up TR on 10c from the 9+ if you're creative)

great wall (6, 7, 8 & easy 10a)

bruise bros wall (2 7's, 2 8's, 2 9's, and easy 10a)

animal crackers wall (some 7's, 8's, 9's)

great arch - often wet though (9 & 10a (stick clip the start and the rest isn't bad))

the gallery (8 )

playground (9 & 10a you can set up on TR from the anchors of the 9)

have fun!

Are crowds at Muir a concern on Fridays or is just the weekends? I haven't been there yet and was thinking of heading down this Friday too.
