so i haven't been following this thread cause mostly i don't care but today i was hiking up to Chica Bonita and this Jeep starts coming up the oil road. I went a bit agro on the guys and asked what the hell they were doing and the got a bit defensive. they asked "and who are you?" and i gave them the "im a member of the community who doesn't want to have access issues in the PMRP"
im a bit curious what other peoples responces to this would be.

you were just pissed they didn't give you a lift..it's understandable.
just make sure that anyone who gives you the PC answer to this one has not parked at Drive by, ran up bob marley to drop packs and guests, or even parked up at the top for chica bonita.....I know of several (ok, many) "members" of the climbing community who have done this, knowing better. I am including myself.

just remember, we are all hypocrites..... 8)

but can we not learn from our mistakes piggie?? can we not look at our past or present and choose our new course based on that? and by doing that learning, do we not have the ability or the need to share that knowledge??

That was me. My buddy torqued his knee and I was going to drive to the top of the hill, drop packs, and park back down at the parking area to hike back up.
In hindsight, not the most responsible thing to do.
In over 10 years of climbing though, I've never run into another climber as aggressive and confrontational as you were. IF I were bigger than you and the fighting type, things probably would have gone differently.
I am pretty laid back and non-confrontational though so we went to another crag that was tension free.
Your intentions were good, but your approach to other people could use some work.

Parking up there's one thing - but you can't cruise up there at all? Not even to drop packs, or wave at the derricks, etc? What if they got lost up there and were going to turn around?

so how were you folks treated when you were starting out?? i read and tried not to be a retard but i'm sure i had moments. most of my early mentors were pretty quiet towards me, patient and helpful but they let me learn; other than safety shit.
that and i mimiced what i saw around me, knowing somewhat of what was safe and what was not.

i was allowed to TR wadcutter w/o directionals my 2nd time ever climbing. of course i couldn't make it off the ground, i took a huge swing (as far as i was concerned) and nearly knocked the person belaying on Dream of a Bee off the ledge. would have loved to know about directionals bec that swing terrified me.

I also learned later that my "experienced" partner had me TRing through the anchors bec he didn't want to climb the route twice to clean it. I kept asking him - if you lead and get to the top then what?! but he wouldn't tell me because it was too "complicated." so i learned about anchors from someone else.

In hind-sight I would have LOVED to have someone give me any advice at all. but then again, i decided i wanted to learn so after that i went out and found people willing to teach. and that's probably why i've been a little too helpful to people just starting out.

sounds like another case where Tact could have been employed, however I understand why you reacted the way you did Pawlikes.

He admits it's not the most responsable thing to do. But uglyness could have been avoided with a little tact. Dealing with anyone, Gumbys, assholes, posers....etc requires a little tact if you dont want your point coming off dickish
