Yes, there is quite a bit of rock climbing and there is even some sport climbing.512OW wrote:Theres rock climbing out there?
Changes out 9b ?
If I'm reading the release correctly they want to remove the dip bridges (low water crossings, culvert dams...whatever you want to call them) that you walk across to get to Muscle Beach, et all and the one you drive across at the Dip Wall parking area. Also remove the plank crossings out by Purple Valley and the one on the way to Board Wall (very old FS road and the plank crossing is in waaay worse shape than the one on 9B that you had to cross to get to PV). Then close 9b at the Dip Wall parking area where the dip bridge used to be.
I got the e-mail sent to me because I'm on the LAC list. I can try to forward it on to those who might want to read over it if you send me your e-mail. There is a comment period so you can express your concerns to the district ranger. I couldn't seem to find any info on the official FS site, although I didn't look too hard.
Better get out there and show those Lower Gorge crags some love before we really have to pack in the Hilti!

I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think this will affect access to Purple Valley. For years you haven't been able to drive across that last "cement plank crossing" anyway. Fording the stream may become a little trickier. The way I read this, the road would remain open to that point. Is that correct?
The way I read it is that the last mile or so of 9b will be closed at the Dip Wall parking area.
"Restricting vehicular access on approximately 0.9 miles of FDR 9B. Following completion, the public will no longer be able to drive past where the upstream cement culvert crossing is now located."
These actions won't affect access to PV or any crags, just increase the approach and the chance your feet will get wet.
