Age old wisdom:

"If it ain't broke, fix it anyway so you can sell it to all the gear monkeys who have perfectly operable "old" cams but need cool new shiny ones that will somehow better protect the 5.8 they've scared themselves half to death on and turned into a 5.11 because they're carrying 3827 lbs. of shiny "new" cams with a cool new name."
I think the c4's are lighter, stronger, cheaper to manufacture, and better able to handle a load when the stem gets bent over an edge. The old ones work fine, but if you need new gear, or don't have any gear, then there is no reason to seek out old crusty gear.

EDIT: I also find the triggers on the c4's to be much more stable than the old BD triggers.

The new C4's actually made me think about replacing some of my friends/metolius. They actually are as light as the other brands now, and the stems/triggers are long enough to actually clean without cussing.

Then I was like, this isn't gonna help me bolder at all so I got some parts for my bike instead.

Parts for your bike help you boulder?

I definitely need stronger cams, you know, with all the breaking that the old ones did....

They help me not want to chuff or climb after the season is over.

I bought 4 cams off the auction on this site for $120.00. .75, 1, 2, 4. Brand new. He said he'd had people inquire, but nobody wanted them because they weren't "C4's"

And now I hear people call them "C4's" all the time. Its funny to me that they are somehow "different" than another cam.

Gear monkeys.

After the conditions last Friday and this past Tuesday I'm starting to think there is a season as well. A guy at Miguels assured us though that Friday and Tuesday were the worst days in the last 10. It figures.

HeavyC mentioned there should be a conditions report. Some local goes to the closest cliff and gives a condensation report. I'd contribute a few bucks a week to not spend $60.00 in gas for a sucky day.
