Pru: So you think I'm being scammed by the Washington Post? What, this reliably liberal mouthpiece has gone over to the dark side?

Has the WOT made the U.S. safer?
Welcome to the late nineties. Washpost is anything but a reliably liberal mouthpiece.L Day wrote:Pru: So you think I'm being scammed by the Washington Post? What, this reliably liberal mouthpiece has gone over to the dark side?
"regroup" = come out of hiding after the troop surgeIt is -- of course -- too early to celebrate; though now in disarray, the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr could still regroup, and Iran will almost certainly seek to stir up new violence before the U.S. and Iraqi elections this fall.
That is where I'd put my money.
Also, fyi.... May be a good idea to get your information from something other than Op Ed columns. Entertainment/Opinion writing is never to be trusted, regardless of the slant.

The dead motherfuckers won't be "regrouping", nor will the imprisoned ones. Within about a month U.S. forces will be down to pre-surge levels. I don't think you're predicted resurgence of the insurgents is going to happen. Let's check back in a month, OK?

Larry we have already lost. We have spent way too much money in that little country. On the other side of things we have wrought too much havoc and shed too much blood. We deposed a despot and we are now fighting both his friends and his enemies.

The war in Iraq moved the center of destruction to Iraq. Many young men from muslim countries went to fight and plan to hold Iraq. Iraq is a buffer zone, a very costly buffer zone for us and the Iraqi people. There will never be stability.

Caribe is the grand prize winner! When all is said and done, his statement is the only one that the defeatists can always go back to. "No matter the outcome in Iraq, we lose, because it cost too much. To that I say, "Then let's minimize our loses by winning, rather than maximizing our loses by throwing in the towel when we're winning." How about it?
Larry is so mixed up in the right-wing echo chamber and blogosphere that he can't tell the difference between a fact-based news article and an editorial. (Just in case anyone else is fuzzy on what's going on - Larry quoted an editorial - it's opinion, not factual news.) Good editorial boards will run credited and uncredited editorials from a broad political spectrum.L Day wrote:From yesterday's Washington Post:
Seriously: Who here thinks that Larry is either 1) something other than totally disingenuous or 2) is actually interested in and/or able to work within a logical framework and from a shared, verifiable base of facts? (For example, Larry seems to think that the US is predominantly "fighting enemies" in Iraq and simply doesn't seem to have enough grasp on the history of the region or the country itself, nor does he seem to have enough of a grasp on the current multi-polar array of shifting alliances and motivations to be able to carry on a useful conversation on the topic.) I love political discourse - actually, I love good political arguments. But these threads with Larry are a waste of time.
Larry - change my mind: Write a history of Iraq and the region over the last 100 years and lay out the variety of groups who are active in Iraq and explain their motivations and the history of their alliances. Do not use block quotes - do it in your own words.
Once some right-winger here presents an argument that can be differentiated from used toilet paper, I'll be glad to make an honest response.
Bacon is meat candy.
City after city in Iraq gets pacified, the Iraqi army is leading the way with the U.S. army in a backup roll, Sunnis have turned against al Qaeda, Shiites civilians are fed up with the militias and are ratting them out, and the Iraqi government is slowly getting it together, but you see nothing but blackness.
We'll see who's laughing in the end. You're one smart fucker Tomdarch, you understand all the history, but can't accept what's happening now simply because it doesn't fit the defeatist narrative. Pathetic.
