The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own.
You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president.
You realize that you control your own destiny.

Trad's bringing the fun back for me. I started out climbing as it was a blast - then got serious about meeting goals and pushing myself - and have gone full-circle.

It's all about enjoying the day.

NOTE Glad I already had my kids (and they were older) when I started climbing. And since I'm old now I can live vicariously through their teenage partying, philandering and shinanegans...
Pick myself up, stop lookin' back.

I think there is a second part to this question. Is your dream grade different from your climbing goals? For example, I currently climb moderate 12 and my goal is to climb 13b, which I think is obtainable. But my dream would be to climb 14a and beyond, but I doubt that will be obtainable due to other things in life. Just curious?

I would but I'm really old and have a headache.
I mean, bring it goldilocks.

I agree with wolfman and ahab - to be able to gracefully glide up a route, regardless of grade, is a goal, in addition to the main reason, to enjoy myself.

Why be happy to do the hard stuff, and perhaps much less eloquently - just to say I can? Grade varies and technique adapts to the challenge, but can still have precision and beauty. That's my take.

I dream to fly, but the reality is that I only climb.
