agreed - unless you want to hang out in Athens and do other stuff....definitely go to the Red.endercore wrote:spend the two hours and drive to the red instead
I loved my three years in Athens, but it was not because of the climbing.

go to athens as least once.. it's the closest bouldering around, and i would say it's worth a look.. i know people have been developing newer, harder stuff as well..

Hocking Hills is very scenic...google Old Man's Cave - Ohio and you'll get the info. Bouldering, I still say not worth it, but maybe there is some super secret place tucked in there somewhere....greating hiking and biking destination though. And beer and weed...

Wow! a lot of negativity about athens!!
that's too bad, it sounds like most of these folks haven't really experienced it, at least not the good stuff. i'm guessing that they just didn't have anyone to point them to the good problems.
there are enough classic problems to fill your whole weekend. if you want more, you can go to hocking hills and fill a week! six-crack at hocking hills is one of the baddest problems i've seen.
as far as athens goes, there is a boat load of easy slabby problems with plenty of slightly overhung classics, too. think you can mantle? go to athens and find out. also, there's a wicked highball (big mama's arete) that hasn't been sent yet. bring lots of pads for that one.

stop in at the new bouldering gym in town (solution rock gym). they'll lead you right to where you want to go.
let me know if you want more info! the community in athens is very strong, especially for how localized the climbing is.
