Grip strength

Post by trog »

Anyone regularly use the squeeze-type grip execisers? Are they effective? I spend a fair amount of commuting time in the car and have been using one lately; wondering if I'm wasting time. I know hang board/fingerboard workouts are better, just hard to do in the car.

I really don't think it will increase any strength, but the increased blood flow will probably help. Might help a little with endurance or building capilaries.

the dynaflex powerball is probably the best thing for post climb workout, pretty much great for all tendinitis below the shoulder

I have the BD dough nut thing. I don't think i build any strength with it but i think it does help me from losing strength as quickly when i can't go climbing for a while.

I like the egg shaped hand grippers they sell and the two finger gripper.

I have the egg too, good for pre work out warm up, the problem with hand strengthening tools is that the blood flow that is stimulated with a device does not release the same growth complexes and dhTestosterone that your body does upon work out. Its hard to simulate muscle breakdown and an anabolic workout with these smaller tools. Although finger strength may improve the transfer to climbing strength is minimal. campus rungs are really the best thing.

thats not what the Iron Mind is for! They're for building death vices for crushing the hand of everyone you shake with. That, and winning every straight arm wrist wrestling match.

Careful with the Iron Mind grippers. I was training to close the #3 (I was close) and tore ligaments in my wrist by gripping so hard.
