Hmm... I can see if we've still got the biner and take a pic (except allah bent part of it)
it looked like those pics that were posted not too long ago, although probably on the worse end. to me, it was CLEARLY unsafe, but you are right meadows, some people may not know..

and andrew, of course i jest about natural selection :)

i also was under the impression that worn gear was replaced by the very same rangers that hide in the forrest and pick up your trash after you leave. if this isn't being done, perhaps someone should talk to the FS about their rangers being lazy. someone could get hurt!! :x :x :o

While we're on the topic, I put a new draw at the top of Skinboat, and a new biner at the top of Belly of the Beast. Both had draws or biners worn at least 50% thru.

I think it is funny that this is a conversation that takes place among people who all recognize the danger and are willing to do something about it. Unless the people who lower off this shit or see it and leave it are identified it seems to me that this conversation is pointless.

Maybe those people will see the conversation, and learn something from it.

Its had over 300 views. I'm sure those weren't all from people who already do something about it...

That is a cheery outlook but the problem seems to persist.

I only carry free bent gates on my rack now because of these conversations... it never even occured to me before.

You were never on a sport route with fixed gear saw a draw you never would want to fall on and thought to yourself that you should replace it?

Nope. I just started sport climbing. Only in the last few months have I been on routes with fixed gear.

The only one I saw before now was an anchor on King Me. I posted about it, but it never occured to me to carry quicklinks or biners.
