Gear recommendations

I keep 10 or so 24 inch slings. They can be doubled, tripled, and worn over the shoulder or not. I like the positrons because they don't snag on webbing. 1 or two 48 inch slings or cordalettes. Draws will work too. they can do double duty, but you can't extend them to prevent rope drag. The 24 inch slings are just more versatile than anything else.

Don't buy the cheap 5.50 a sling from Black diamond. They are good, but when tripled into alpine draws, they tend to get stuck and don't extend smoothly enough for me. Maybe I set up the draw wrong though.

Ditto on the 24-inch slings, tripled up as a "trad draw". I carry 12 of them, plus a couple of 48 in slings over the shoulder for anchors. Down here in NC, the pitches can get kinda long....

On the few ounces per biner thing, yeah it really makes a difference. You carry 24 or so biners on the draws, then you've got another whole batch of 10-15 racking biners (depending on how cam crazy you are), plus a few odds-n-ends and it adds up. For Christmas, my wife and kids gave me a whole bunch of Wild Country Heliums to replace my old Spirits and it made a very noticeable difference in the weight of the rack.

4 24" tripled up.

4 or 5 sport draws if you'll be using stoppers.

3 or 4 over the shoulders with 1 biner on each.

Thats overkill.

I switched most of my trad draw carabiners to the trango superfly last year and really cut the weight. One downside however is that the smaller biner seems to kink the rope fairly tightly at the anchor. I recommend keeping some regular old biners for the rope end to give the rope more loop. This may be totally off base, but when I'm off the ground 80 feet I think about things like this.
