RRR April 18-20 at Miguel's

Post by Paul3eb »

ok.. it's friday and deadlines are fast approaching so i'll apologize ahead of time for a) the choppiness of this post and b) the tardiness of it.

red river reunion is coming to miguel's on friday april 18 (that's next week folks!)

here's the basic rundown:

friday night around 8pm or so:
brian solano will be presenting his latest film, spray. check out the website for more, http://www.spraymovie.com

saturday:
10am: climbing comp with cash prizes at torrent falls. entry fee will be $15. please please please carpool! details on how it will work out are still being processed but it'll likely be like the last one there: based on volume..

trash collection comp: will be gorge wide and will involve prizes/schwag.. prizes include being able to climb at torrent on sunday.

(these next parts will be in the field across the stream and will be $10 entry)

around 6pm or so: live bluegrass music from 23 strings. awesome music, always a good time.

around 8pm or so: jason kehl and david chancellor will be giving their slideshow presentations. for those of you who saw jason's last slideshow, you know it's awesome and, better yet, it's update with new stuff.. so you'll be catching new material. for those of you who haven't seen it (like me) check it out.. it's supposed to be pretty damn awesome.

music to wrap up the night and sunday, we'll clean up.

there will be plenty more going on throughout the weekend. sterling ropes will have a rope recycling program.. bring in your rope to recycle and be entered into a raffle to win a new 60m veloctiy. joshua tree climbing salve will be around all weekend offering samples and the like of their stuff. five.ten will have shoe demos (think triple crown: give 'em your license, you get the shoes for the day).

and that's not to mention plenty of schwag from lots o' places: vision climbing holds, prana, red river outdoors, j&h, phillip galls, keen, rockquest, la sportiva, black diamond, climb time,.. i'm missing some..

and of course the coalition will be there with shirts, info, and hoping for donations to support the pmrp purchase (http://www.rrgcc.org/pmrp.php).

there will be more info at http://www.rrgcc.org soon. i promise.. and at miguel's i'll try to have the itinerary down there.

other notes: please bring cash, it's easier for us since we can't take credit cards. there's an atm at the shell station. and we'll be in need of some volunteers.. we'll let you know soon when/how you can sign up for that.

thanks all. be there.. it'll be fun.

I would like to include pictures from the festivities in the next RRGCC newsletter & on the myspage page. i'm not much of a photographer, so i'm hoping you can help - particurarly with pictures from the comp since i will not be attending.

If you would like to contribute please PM me after the event. Be sure to include your full name for photo credits and if you are one of the photographer types with your own website, include that too.

thanks in advance for your help!

At this point in time we plan on having three divisions: Novice/Intermediate (5.8-5.10+), Advanced (5.11-5.12+), and Open/Elite (5.12+ and above).

There has been some discussion about whether to have the Novice/Intermediate category or not? In two past comps we have set up top ropes for this category to accomodate beginning and intermediate climbers. However, considering the amount of effort required to set up TR's it may not be worth it if only a few people sign up for that category. So speak up if you are interested in us having the Novice/Intermediate category for the comp.

BTW, I am picking up prize schwag from RockQuest and Vision Holds today. Prizes will include such things as the Vision holds, draws, climbing videos, chalk bags, shirts/clothing items, & books. There will be some type of cash element for the Open/Elite and maybee even for the lower divisions.
