If this is what Ray wants, then just say so. I won't say another word. But I would be shocked if the majority of the active posters here were upset about a bunch of random political threads in the 'you suck' forum.

Speaking of climbing. Man, I got shut down by hard moves on two different lines this weekend. I go through these phases where I think I have way more power than I need at the Red then I get on a route that I just get shut down on. I love it because it motivates me to train power again. The Red is not just about endurance all the time. There are some hard ass moves out there.

Glad you got out this weekend. I was stuck at work for 1 day, and my back was in spasm the other day. 'Trolling' these forums seems like the fun thing to do in between builds.

Yeah, plenty of power moves at the red, if you have the endurance to get to them

Ray, It's way past those days for me, but I don't think anybody will ever have more power than they need for the Red. I think you'll always be able to find moves that need 'just a bit more power'. But what sucks about that?

obviously i have no say in the matter, but the political discussions were not causing harm. if something is not causing harm and others find it enjoyable then just live and let live - rather than try to force everyone to your point of view (that political discussions should be on political forums and not on here).

i also agree that it's a lot nicer to discuss things with the people that you know. that's one of the things that brings us together as a Climbing Community.

So, I see (and hear it from) both sides - some want no politics, some want more, etc. I feel that, esp. lately, there has been a pretty solid amount of negative political posts, and that trend has been building for a while. There is no way to make everyone happy, and that is OK.

But, we do need to try to find a better balance or something. Perhaps trying to limit new political threads to a few per week, trying to keep the posts more positive (find some good out there!), and a little bit less canned, warmed over, crap from cnn/fox/msnbc/slate/etc and a little bit more original thought would be nice. I am open for suggestions, other then just keeping it the way it has been...

Larry, perhaps you watch to much fox news, but I really don't care all that much about which side is getting the negative coverage, so much as that it is happening. I esp. am not trying to stop these thread to help Obama. Personally, I would like to see him as VP with Al Gore (because he is a mac user).

Wes, do know that I see you as my friend, and do not feel that our friendship is in any way harmed by this disagreement. This is a privately owned website, and it is kind of self evident that those who run it are free to run it as they see fit.

That said, I don't think you'll look back on your decision to censor political discussion here as one of your prouder moments.

heh, Larry, believe me when I say that I have way too many other much worse "not proud" moments that something like this would be way, way down the list. Beside, I don't feel bad about this at all - just trying to make some positive changes to balance the needs of all the users out.

It might be too much trouble but one option that would allow people to still start as many political threads as they want and some others to not see them is to make a new politics forum under the pit category and allow registered users to unsubscribe from individual forums they are not interested in. I don't know if the code for this is built in but at least it's an idea. I guess it would also need to only show posts from forums one is subscribed to when searching etc. In principle it could also reduce load on the search engine.
