What type of belay device do you use?

Post by powell.se »

Yesterday I watched a guy send a text message and provide a GriGri belay for his leader at the same time. What type of belay device do you use and why do you like it?

I use the Gri Gri since it allows one's experienced friends to show one things while one is belaying.

It depends. Are they hangdoging on TR or are they on lead.

9 times out of 10 I will grab the ATC it keeps my belay skills frosty and provides a smoother belay on lead. If they are "hanging out" I like to use a Gri Gri, but its rare...... I did learn how to belay on a stitch plate so ATC usually wins, just used to it more.

I'm curious why your ATC provides a better belay on lead? When a grigri is used just like an ATC, leading is exactly the same. What issues have you had when using a grigri?
