Climbing off in Louisville

A friend of mine recently had some pics of an interesting looking, fairly large rock wall that she said was located off Grinstead Drive when your head down 64west towards Louisville. She said there were two actual bolted routes and some other bouldering areas. She also said that It was almost impossible to give directions to this place...Aparently she wanted me to come with her to see. Does anyone know, or even have an idea where the heck this place might be. Or for that matter any other real rock climbing areas in Louisville. I have already visited the two bouldering spots in Seneca Park, and found them to be pretty nice.

there is bouldering in Seneca Park?? I'd like to meet you there sometime! PM me if you are interested. I live in Oldham County.

I also need to start training at the *gasp* gym. If you ever need a partner, let me know. I'm pretty flexible these days.

Do you know if the wall you are referring to is a roadcut? If so, rumor has it that it sucks balls - that is second hand knowledge, though. I'm curious about any bouldering possibilities.

I'm not sure, but I think I know where you're talking about. It is on the left off of Grinstead as you head towards town, past Lexington road? If this is the place, it is pretty tall and wide, but it looks like it was cut out of the hill side to make room for the parking lot that now sits in front of it. I haven't been there since I started climbing, but I guess there could be potential for climbing. Let me know if this is it, or if it's anygood.

So where exactly is the bouldering in Seneca Park?

I'm told there is also a little bouldering at Otter Creek Park. I'll be there later today. Does anyone have the beta?

She may be talking about right off the expressway. If you go down I-64 towards downtown and get off at Grinstead, there is rock on your right. I thought that it might have been dynamited to make way for the road, but there is not arock face on the other side. If it's good rock it looks to be fun climbing.

I have rode the mtb trails at otter creek and seen most of the rock there, you got to be pretty desperate to boulder there.

Maybe you can scan those pics in, and someone might be able to recognize them. where is the bouldering in seneca? just curious

I'm pretty sure that you are talking about the roadcut between grinstead drive and story ave exits on I-64. There was one bolted toprope anchor (now removed), and old bolted aid ladder, and other tr routes,which were done in the old days.

It's slick limestone and pretty much sucked.

Now they have extended the housing on top (for the semenary) and there were some fall accidents in the early 90s which have pretty much closed it down. It was allways tresspassing but no one used to care. Now I here that they will call the police quickly if you ae seen there. It's in plain view of the x-way.

It was also used by party people who brought there graffti and, glass and trash.

Benny- The wall which you are talking about is behind the Womans Club on Grinstead dr. No Climbing has ever been done there which I know about.

The wall behind the Louisvill Soccer Club on Mockingbird Ln. has been climbed by the Lou. outdoor club in the 70s and is now posted with a no climbing sign.

As for bouldering in the Lou area, It pretty much sucks

In Cherokee park (not Seneca which is adjcent) there are some small wall (10 ft.) of limestone off the Mt. bike trails.

There are other limstone bands allong the Ohio river and Harrods Creek (IN Oldham Co.-Lynn) that I have visited but not impressed with.

all in all Just drive to the RRG and enjoy the world class climbing!!!

I stopped by the bouldering in Seneca Park today to look around. It is not the best in the world, but it could be fun. There were a couple of nice hand cracks that went up about 18 feet.

you were in Cherokee- Seneca has no rock-

Seneca is the golf course and the Soccer fields w/ the walking path around them.

once you drive by beargrass creek at Big Rock, you are in Cherokee Park.
