What's the best guide book for North Carolina. I'm most interested in Looking Glass and Linville.
Jon
Looking Glass
If I had to buy only one I'd get "Selected Climbs in North Carolina" by Yon Lambert and Harrison Shull. 2002. It doesn't have as many routes listed as "The Climbers Guide to North Carolina" by Thomas Kelley. 1996, but it has descriptions and nice topos. I think it also has Rumbling Bald which was excluded from the latest edition of "The Climbers Guide to North Carolina" because of access problems.

The bigger book is worth the money. I've had it for years, my only NC guidebook and have taken many trips that way. Linville, Looking Glass, Stone Mtn, Pilot Mtn and Ship Rock...
If you go to Looking Glass you have to do the Nose, but if you can't get on it do Sundial Crack.
Linville list should include: Daddy, Prow (the Mummy isn't as good as either of these), Table Rock: Jim Dandy, Peek-a-Boo, Helmet Buttress and the North Ridge

The Mummy, the daddy and the prow are all really nice, bring your adventurous spirit.
Exposure on the prow is mind boggling but the climbing and pro are so solid you really get to enjoy it.
Be preparred for mountain weather, I almost hyped out one january on table rock when a 60 degree sun went to 32ish and rain. We werent prepared for that.

So, you're a feminist...isn't that cute.
i liked the daddy a bunch. i'm a new trad leader and i led pitches #2 & #4 w/o a plm. i would suggest having some tri-cams on your rack. they came in handy.

It's that time of the year again.
The US Forest Service letter dated January 14th, 2008 states there were 13 known nesting pairs of falcons last season. At least seven of the sites successfully produced young, 5 did not. They are unsure of Shortoff due to the fires.
Forest Service climbing areas that are CLOSED until August 15th (or further notice):
WHITESIDES
BIG LOST COVE
SHORTOFF
TABLE ROCK, NC
WHITEROCK CLIFF
LOOKING GLASS
The affected areas are the same as years prior and areas affected should be well marked.
