the real problem is that we as a user group, historically have hated rules. we like to "believe" that we are exempt fom common courtesy. the poop problem is evident in hueco, indiam creek and yosemite as well (with humans) so at least we know climbers across the board are NOT good stewards.

human nature is to take and not give in equal amounts.

That is so true, Piggie. Do you still have that biner you took from me without giving me one of yours?

human nature is also such that when wronged, people hold grudges.

Yeah, yeah. Don't get your panties in a wad. This thread is about dogs. Thats why you were mentioned in conjunction with dogs. Nobody here speculated about all the reasons you closed.

It's just so hard to find things that you do wrong, Kipp. I found one and I'm holding on to it with all I've got. Don't take this away from me by distilling it down to something as common as a grudge.

Actually, I'm the schmuck who did. First, I'm sorry for addressing something off-topic in this thread (both then and now). Second, I'd like to express my deep gratitude to Mark and his family for keeping Torrent open to free, public climbing for as long as they did, despite the years of unpleasantness that they evidently have been experiencing.

Back on topic. It's a shame. I understand the Webers' decision. Being a dog owner, there have been so many times seeing other dogs and thinking "that dog should have been left home." It's too bad, but it comes down to responsibility and respect. It just makes me angry because being responsible and respectful myself didn't make any difference. I and my friends had to see others spoil Torrent and start infecting Muir.

thats only one part of the story, there were plenty of of dogs that were well behaved but left of the leash blatantly disregarding the landowners wishes. I believe that is ultimatly what pissed me off more than anything because now I can't bring my dog, and hence climb at muir unless I find a sitter. It wasn't the bad dog it was the good dogs with bad owners.
Why am I still responding to these threads, oh yeah, it burns me up every weekend I don't get to climb at muir.
Also, Rick, I am sure jackasses are still bringing their dogs out there, I suggest that everyone you see get out of there car with a dog, you post a note on their windshield warning of getting towed. Two strikes and your out, I am sure it would only take one or two examples to get the point across.
