Damn that was awesome shit talking! Totally 5 stars. Josie used to be such a nice person and look what this board has done to her. Wow!Josephine wrote:Jr, of course he's weak - but this is not about climbing harder. didn't you read the last paragraph? he wants to "send" his partner - not the route. it seemed pretty clear to me that all he wants is a consolation fuck in the parking lot after he fails to send.
He should partner with Horatio - I'm sure Ho could show him a thing or two about "sending" in style!
I like what JR said and SCIN too. esp. SCIN's reply.
My view:
Don't care too much (fear and expectations are killers). Climb as much as you can (hell i don't train at all - none - and i bet you would like to climb like me, hell most jerries do). And it really helps to be strong and skinny and a good shit-talker (not to be better but to be more fun at the cliff).

Of course I got upset. Not because I don't know my climbing abilitys are not that great but because a topic for discussion that could help myself and others advance to the next level of climbing, was shit on. So much for your positive vibes huh?pigsteak wrote:mr. driskell...see, you too, have not realized the karma of not caring..apparently their comments rub you the wrong way, so you have not quite reached the pinnacle of self enlightenment. don't blame your lack of trying with a character defect however...many people suck at climbinb..just be honest with it.
it is like people who jog a 10 minute mile and call themselves runners. no, you are a recreational jogger. call a spade a spade.
By the way you obviously know nothing about karma. If you did you might have been more helpful than such an ass.... don't ya think?

unfortunately for us, that is the nature of redriverclimbing.com. you may try rockclimbing.com or supertopo.com. perhaps the shit in those forums would be more helpful.DriskellHR wrote: a topic for discussion that could help myself and others advance to the next level of climbing, was shit on. as far as what it takes - i can't say definitively since i'm still a weak-sause. but things i've found helpful are climbing with people that are both better than me, which is pretty much everyone, and able to teach. there are lots of people who are GREAT at what they do, but not so great at teaching others how to do it - and this is true of any subject.
The trick is to find someone who matches your learning style. Personally, i need someone who will show, tell, watch me try, and give feedback. in that order. and someone with LOTS of patience bec i don't always catch on quickly and need to hear things 2 and 3 times.
My approach has been to focus on technique. to hell with power and route grades - that will come eventually. but since i can't do specific exercises to strengthen my tendons, the last thing i want to do is muscle my way up a 5.12 and into the injured reserve list. and, hopefully, with a slow and steady approach, when i finally DO have the strength/endurance for 5.12 i will also have the technique to match.
but ultimately, you will ask a lot of people for their opinions - take what you like - leave the rest - and design your own plan for sending harder. there is no set formula for if you do X to train you will climb 5.hard by next month.

How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
