Come on poeple, We need to show the FS that we are capable of policing ourselves,I dont agree with every single thing every member of the coalition says either ,but I do support them when they make a democratic decision.Without them there would be little climbing left in the Red. The guy that did the painting did it on his own to dumb the place down for first timers,it's just not cosistent with standards in place. Forget your own agendas and respect the ones in place for each crag set by the people that developed it. I stood on a stump at the base of a sport route and talked to Shannon the day she covered up the graffiti. The stump bothered me as much as the paint, but I still support the majority rule.

The individual who painted the trees obviously meant well, but there is absolutely no doubt that the act was unacceptable by the prevailing ethics which apply to the RRG area climbing. No doubt whatsoever.

Ynot is spot on in his post. If we as climbers are seen as fighting among ourselves, even over issues which occur on private land, we will lose our effectiveness with the powers that be when we are working to protect climbing access on FS land. We really do need to consider the bigger picture here and come together.

Shannon, Lee, you did a great job to resolve the problem, and on short notice. Thank you!

littlefeller, the signs there bub... come on kickin! I'll give ya a wholopin'

anyhoo, what the hell does "i've been climbing in the red longer than some of you, and I've found all the crags." mean? you said you wanted user friendly signs since you drove 4 hours to get here.

Now you're saying you have been climbing longer than "some of you", which is about as astute as saying that you've been climbing far for a far shorter time than "some of us".

You're a regular genius the way you've basically said:
"signs are user friendly and thus good, but I've been climbing for some undisclosed amount of time which is neither longer nor shorter than any number of people, and don't really need signs, because the red river gorge is not as pristine as this one place in wyoming which happens to be a protected wilderness area."

My bad dude, you're not an idiot at all. If you ever make up your mind, I might even agree with you.

I like this arguing stuff... i shoulda jumped on this bandwagon long ago. who wants to fight? Where's my bourbon?

Did no one else notice that the topic says "climbers" as in plural. It was one person, and it doesnt make us as a group look much better than the paint.

Woohoo! I think this is a very constructive post. (he he) I would like to make clear that any criticism I have for the RRGCC is constructive and never meant as an attack. If I care about something, then I analyze it and look for ways to improve. Not always tactfully. Shannon and Lee did an AMAZING job taking care of the trees, et al. Thanks guys. Many of my friends are on the RRGCC and I know they all aspire to make it better (hear me backpeddle). Still, I do believe that there are things we can do better and I see major improvements in those areas. Those are just my opinions though.

That being said, I participated in an RRGCC meeting with 4 others last night. It went on for several hours and was quite taxing. Shannon does this all of the time. She really doesn't get half the credit for everything she does for climbing access. Really, she eats a lot of shit and doesn't have to.
Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.

ok..spragwa....just a quick question, again as an "outsider"...4 people showed up for a meeting. was this an executive meeting, or is the extent of the "interest" from the lexington crew? just curious...
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
