There is nothing in this world worse than a thief.

My truck and 2 other cars got hit at roadside around 6 yesterday. They robbed me blind. Luckily I had most my climbing gear locked up under the bed cover . Apparently a lot of break ins have been going on the last couple weeks. It took 4 hours to get a report filed at the wolf county police station. If you head to the Red this weekend lock your stuff in the trunk or take it to the crag.

I say we set-up a climber sting and nail the bastards

Damn. I was at Roadside at about 4pm. I didn't have any gear in the truck, but youch, that's scary.

the past few times I've been climbing at Roadside or have driven by, there is a late model 4 door Dodge station wagon hanging out. I've often wondered just what the hell he is doing there all the damn time. Sometimes he has friends visiting but most of the time he's just chillin...

we have got to keep shit tight nowadays...

I've noticed that car as well. I tend to get there early and he is there. He generally drives off and then returns 20 minutes later.

you out of towners are a bunch of idiots. that old man in that blue station wagon just hangs out there.he's not stealing anything.he's nobody.Susan told you who was stealing the stuff from roadside and military wall parking. Its the local who lives in ZACHARIAH!!!! He drives a red S-10.He is the local thief everyone knows it.
If you want to keep your stuff safe.Leave it at Miguels.Set it out on the ground in the camping area(only if you camped the night before) then come back after you've gone climbing.Enjoy a pizza.Spray a little(or a lot),pack up your stuff and go.

I'm not suggesting some sort of vigilante patrol, but the RRGCC really should address this type of issue - it impacts climbers in particular. Maybe some sort of 'neighborhood patrol' training could be arranged by local law enforcement.

Also, if there's a break-in issue popping up, then we should start making a habit of cruising through various parking lots while on the way from one crag to another. Just pull off the road and roll slowly through the lot looking for what's going on - people loitering or hiding between/behind vehicles - broken windows - etcetera. Just having the potential theives see that climbers are paying attention will cut down on break-ins.

If this guy in the red truck is the main culprit, then maybe climbers can keep an eye out for him. As an 'idiot' 'out of towner' I wouldn't be concerned about reporting him to the cops or testifying against him in court if I saw him up to something.

The self policing thing isn't a bad idea. It never hurts to play neighborhood watch, but lessen the chances of becoming a victim in the first place and it might save ya the headache. Make sure to report any and all problems to some agency. Anyone ever tried the KSP as opposed to the local sheriff's dept? Also report any goings on on the Daniel boone to the Forest Service law enforcement. Those folks are willing, but you have to let them know. You might also want to try the Powell Co dispatch (basically 911) or get ahold of Don Fig over at Gladie. I was once given this contact number for FS law enforcement: Officer Kendall Culbertson (606) 663-2852
