Josephine,
rei.com has an outlet section, look under synthetic sleeping bags, I purchased a 0 degree north face bag for $100 bucks, they had a few other nice ones for around $80 bucks-I remember one was a Kelty-it was a nice bag also. (I don't have the funding to purchase a 0 degree down bag). But if you want to get a bag that lasts many years and is more comfy invest in a down bag-granted they're around $300 more expensive than a synthetic and well worth it (more compressible, no cold spots, higher loft-for more warmth, lighter weight, etc).
One more thing, sleep with two sleeping pads-if you use a thermarest, put a closed cell foam pad under it.

While the crag oven is in the experimental phase with high expectations, the tried and proven method of staying warm at the cliff is with a propane heater, but strategically placed to focus its heat right on one's Johnsen/loins. The idea is like dude said of the Antarctic heart warming technique, although way more effective. Most of the bodies 5 liters of blood is in capacitance veins (storage) in the pelvis. Focus your BTU's on the BVD's and guaranteed you will bust a sweat in 30 degree weather. I call it the Loin Warming Technique.

Jossie, you can spend a few hundred bucks on on smoe cold weather crap, and it will work. I honestly suggest you put that money towards your trad rack and at least try the emergency blanket in a mediocre (cheap) sleeping bag. The best night of sleep I ever had at the red was several years back over new years eve with a foot of snow on the ground. I had just about the cheepest sleeping bag known to man lined with an emergency blanket and I lined the tent with another one, threw on a head sock and nessled in the snow, my feet were not even cold. This was also before I even knew thermarests existed, so if you have one of those it would be even better.
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
um.... i actually have a "good" sleeping bag. it's a 15 degree north face synthetic. cost about $100 when i bought it about 10 mos ago. it's great - as long as it's above 50. i guess there's no quick and easy solution to macgyver-ing an electric blanket to keep me nice and toasty. i might just have to play around with the emergency blanket since i'm not willing to buy the "i'm going to climb mt everest" sleeping bag
Pru, that whole "never getting warm again" after midnight potty runs just isn't going to cut it for me. i want to be nice and toasty!
krampus, i think the trad rack has to wait a bit longer. i need a crash pad first. turns out the bouldering thingy was more fun than i thought!

I use a silk bag liner inside a 15 deg rectangular down bag. I use a big fat thermarest over a foam pad. Since I have been using this setup I have not been cold and I have been out in temps just above zero.
Midnight pee, I never think about getting in my bag for the night without my pee bottle. Best to put a little thought into pee hole/bottle hole mating before you are desperate.

I bet a -60 will work!! It is a bit expensive though. They will even custom make the size and colors.
