When working in a climbing gym enviroment please be aware of others...sometimes at RQ and there are three groups working at the lead side on their 20 minutes up and down training, then is time for the belayer to do their 20 minutes up and down...the rest of the climbing population might as well call it a day...

lurk's unit also goes by, "The mighty scimitar of love". don't ask about it or ask to see it. believe me you will walk away feeling inadequate.......

school him then
'Darling, may I please be excused for a moment?
I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope to introduce you to after dinner.'
The polite way to excuse yourself and take a piss.

not all of us have a good gym to go to, (let alone the urge) or the multi-million dollar thug and bitch rap lifestyle some on here might enjoy to be able to afford a gym pass. when i do get one that is the method i prefer. that or a fast campus board workout as long as i'm climbing pretty regularly outside.
You climb?

Ooogling hottie booties usually suppresses the gag reflex...

Oh, and I've done something similar to the 4-3-2-1/4x4 routine:
1) It works! I went from needing full hands-off rests to recover at all, to being able to shake and recover (somewhat) on good jugs. In other words, it's totally critical to sending at the Red!
2) Goddam! It really sucks to do it.
3) I need to get my fat, lazy ass back on the program!

I did my training on a 11' high by 12' wide, overhanging wall by doing diagonal up/side mini-problems then downclimbing and 'diagonaling' up and over the other way (with some traversing). It worked in terms of building power+endurance. Also, I was going by a stop watch, rather than by # of problems or # of moves. Over a few weeks I built up from from 1 min 30 sec at a go up to 2:30 or 3:00 moving nearly continuously. It was deeply unfun and unpleasant to do, but the reward was there on the rock!

I think that pure horizontal traversing would be far better than nothing, and would train forearm muscles to hold on, but isn't the best overall because you aren't building/working the 'up' movement muscles. (and, at least for me, isn't as fun as going at least somewhat up)
