Republican Debate

Post by Shamis »

Any of you watch the republican debate on cnn the other night?
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/28/ ... nnSTCVideo

It was fairly interesting. My question to any republicans out there would be...why is McCain not winning? What is wrong with him? When I hear him speak I always think, this is the only honest educated person in the room...

just curious. Enlighten me with your conservative goodness.

Well, if it's OK for someone who has voted for more Democrats than Republicans to comment, he committed a major faux pas when he came down on the "wrong" side of the immigration issue. Liberals (on immigration) like Bush and McCain favor "comprehensive immigration reform", which grassroots conservatives believe leads, correctly in my opionion, to "open borders from now 'till hell freezes over". These same grassroots conservatives want someone who will get the borders under control first, so the Dems and Republicans can then take all the time they want to "comprehensive" the fuck out of immigration reform.

Personally, I don't think it's at all too late for McCain to overcome his early blunder, though it baffles me that he didn't see or, more likely, didn't care what the grassroots thought.

I think I actually like Mccain better than Obama and Hill.

I'm still reading up on Ron Paul. I'm not entirely sure he's sane though. Do any of you really think we could move back to a gold standard without some sort of huge economic meltdown?

yeah, the gold standard thing is ludicrous...but every candidate has some flaky bones, ya know.

mccain does not exude enough "persona" to be the nominee.

McCain is against the war in Iraq. The litmus test for any conservative republican is his or her stance on the war. McCain is also dicey on immigration policies in his support of amnesty-esque policies.

Actually, the whole Fed Reserve thing ludicrous. Can someone who knows more about the issue tell us about the Fiat Empire video? Is it a load of crap or do they have a sensible case?

I thought he said we should't be there, but now that we're there we can't just pull out fast. Am I wrong? that sounds pretty reasonable.

He's been saying we needed more troops for a long time. It's pretty clear that he was right about that.
