Bolting
Bolting
Has anyone heard of a guy who is bolting on Forest Service Property without talking to the Park Service? Rumors abound that a new bolter is doing this. If anyone knows him, please let him know that this could threaten the climbing community's relationship with the Park Service. I know that this is a touchy subject and that we all want routes bolted with impunity (including me). Unfortunately, that can close crags.
Jesus only knows that she tries too hard. She's only trying to keep the sky from falling.

I'll keep my eyes and ears out. Is this happening on KY State Park land? That would be the only Park Service relationship that would be put into jeapordy...not there is currently much of a relationship. It is the United States Forest Service that oversees the lands of the RRG and DBNF.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
I spoke with the person who was alleged to have bolted on U.S. Forest Service property. He vehemently denied the allegation and is really upset that people are spreading rumors without substantiating them. When I hear rumors, I like to go to people and say "hey, I heard you're doing this, what's up?" Seems like there is some miscommunication going on here. That doesn't do much for the RRGCC and climbing community relationship.
Does anyone know where the bolting occurred or how we can check it out? Further, could it be a misunderstanding where someone saw a climber replacing bolts or anchors? If anyone has more info, please post!
