By your logic we should have been gassing Jews during WWII because "they" were doing it. I don't give a fuck how bad our "enemies" are (enemies created by the invasion), I care how bad WE are. In the end I have to live with my fellow Americans and if we're so hasty to waterboard or taser one another what the fuck good is that?
Under this administration we have fallen to the level of leaders like Khadafi or Pinochet. We disappear people, we torture them, we hide them, and we ignore the rule of law. Our President feels he is free to ignore treaties signed by his predecessors, ignore the Constitution and laws of this country and the world at large, and ignore the most basic values of the civilized world. He has contempt for one of the absolutely most basic tenants upon which this country was founded: the writ of habeus corpus.
This is a Republican trait I find deplorable and is exhibited domestically in their hatred and contempt for the mentally ill, the poor, the homeless, the imprisoned, the sick, and pretty much everyone who isn't either a corporate whore or independently wealthy. They feel that if you can't fend for yourself you should, in the words of our Vice President, go fuck yourself. Despite using New Deal infrastructure every day of their life they believe someone should be making a profit off of it, meaning not everyone would have access in the end to the roads, safe drinking water, sewers, electricity, etc. They feel nothing should be owned by us all, especially if they maight have to pay taxes to make it happen. They believe fervently that only those that can afford to pay into the massive profits for their ilk should have access to health care or retirement without labor and hunger and with a roof over their head. What happens to another human doesn't mean anything to them unless it directly effects them.
Put that on the international stage and you end up invading a country, killing at least a half million people, internally displacing at least 80,000 people and causing at least 2.2million to flee the country completely and then you have the balls to pretend you've brought peace and freedom to that country.
Seems like we're being equated with the people that we're fighting. Like I said, I think the people of Iraq get it better, which is why they're coming around.
Bullshit they're "coming around." We've put a shitton of troops in the country. Most smaller cities have been ethnically cleansed, and where there is still conflict it is temporarily muted. They know we can't keep this level of involvement going, and in the meantime we'll keep finding mass graves, people will be assassinated in the streets, and every once in a while some lunatic is going to blow himself up. As soon as the troop levels decrease again the violence will resume. We need to just get the fuck out of there and let them settle this shit on their own. It'll be bloody but it will also be quick. The way we've been doing it it's been bloody for a long time and will continue to be bloody for a long time. Pull the band-aid off slowly or quickly, either way it's going to hurt.
