Just to clarify:
I didn't say I disliked crowds, I enjoy the social aspect. However, if I am tryng to train and get fit, it's frustrating to have to wait and wait and wait to get on every route.
I also don't dislike dogs, but I find them a lot better to be around when they are under the owner's control.
And who is going to choose to go hiking instead of climbing with their dog? Sport climbers hate to hike! That's no choice at all
Overcrowding
It may be a self imposed have too, but so is going to work. In any sense, I hope that my personal dog ethics are not a problem, at least I have never known them to be. I think the main problem is the overcrowdedness of the crags which brings mobs of dogs, and mobs of dicktards too, but it also brings in money to keep our crags open, so here we go again.
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared

I like Meadows idea of having a counter at the trail that leads to each cliff.
If the gadget had a way off adding a number when you hit one button and deleting one when you hit the other, then you could click in when you arrive and click in when you leave (uh oh.....now this is sounding like going to work!)
At least then you could go up to a trail and check the number before hauling all of your crap and your ten dogs up there. Oh! Maybe we could have a check in and out for the dogs too.

Hauling a big ego up a route adds at least a full grade.
most of you think I am a dick already but this happened this Sunday.
"roy, roy, roy, roy, ROY, ROY, ROY!" loudly exclaimed from the approach trail. "Woof" the dog exclaimed loudly and gave the impression it was a much larger dog.
"ROYROYROYROYGETBACKHERENOW!"
so I said" put your damn dog on an effin leash" to the bushes because I still haven't seen him at this point, just hearing him.
I told alan to hold his dog, and the next thing I know TWO damn dogs are running through the belay followed by their owner (with leash in hand), "oh they are really friendly, don't worry" -but, DUDE- I just heard you scream at them up the entire trail and they ran through my belay--and you just did, too!
so he turns to me and says" Does anyone up here have a problem with my dogs" and I look him in the face (while still belaying) "YEAH, I do."
he gets huffy. From the route above me comes a big "fuck off, I'm climbing" and he wanders off mumbling about out west.
dogs are cool when you have em under control. not so much when you don't.

Having a problem with dogs and bitching about it on here is pointless. If you have a problem with dogs cowboy up at the crag and do somthing about it. There is always a polite way of letting other people know they are making a nuisance of themselves, its how they handle it that will determine the out come.
But pretty soon, some smart (or smart-ass?) people would realize that if they get to the trail-head first and want the crag to themselves, all they have to do is click in 10 or 20 or more times and everyone else will go elsewhere...steep4me wrote:I like Meadows idea of having a counter at the trail that leads to each cliff.
