Mariba Fork

Post by seapickle »

I think I know, but I have no idea!
We followed what I thought were realtively straight forward directions in the guide book to Mariba Fork but when we came out of the rhodos there were two bolted lines going up the face right in front of us, there are no bolted routes at Mariba, RIGHT??? To the right of the "sport" routes there was a nice dihederal crack leading up to a bolted anchor, could this have been Synergy?
Were we in the right place or not? PLEASE HELP! :)

Miss SeaPickle! may i be the first to welcome you to the board! :D

i'll try to post a couple pics i took when caleb, katie and i visited there a while back (assuming i haven't deleted them!) we hiked around the rock to the right and never once came in contact with a bolted route. the anchors on laceration were bolted if i remember correctly.

you might want to ask caleb too - he has much better directional sense than me.

hope you had a lovely hike! :)

Are you sure your ankle can hang broke junk?
i'm still not sure what we were looking at. it was strange to see bolts in an area that was supposed to be all trad. we should definately go together though, it was a beautiful hike and a very remote area.
on sat. we went to phantasia, we got there late so we only had time to do a couple of routes. i lead creature feature and pogue ethics.
can't wait to climb with you again!
P.S. all your gear is safe and sound!

The two renegade bolted lines at Mariba were discovered and investigated by the Forest Service a couple years ago. There was a possibility that this part of the cliff line was on private property. They were going to have their surveyors check it out. I haven't heard anything definitive since then. What is the general feeling of climbers of these two renegade routes? Should they be chopped and the hangers taken for booty?

Leave them. the deed has been done and they have been discovered. no point in doing anything about them now....
