hanger orientation

Post by ThomClimber »

Hey Folks - several of us non-route developers are in the midst of a discussion about bolting. How much does the orientation of the hanger influence the strength of both the hanger and the bolt placement? I realize that there are those nice little arrows on the hanger that dictate the ideal orientation but how bad is it if the hanger is spun out of this position? For the time being assume that the hanger is tight and not currently spinning.

This discussion started while in the gym when we noticed several bolts out of optimal position. We then realized that we occasionally see hangers like this on the rock as well. I knew that people in the Red have tested a lot of bolt placements and I didn't know if this ever factored into your tests.

Thanks.

you said bolts in the gym were out of optimal position. do you mean hangers...I would think this is a big semantic difference.
