I don't think I've ever regretted the money I've spent going on trips, near or far. Also, I'm going to have to agree with Spragwa - the money I spent on my education was well worth it, as it made me financially independent and allowed me to find jobs I enjoy, that in turn let me take more trips.

Since I don't have a long history climbing, I'll have to answer this from another aspect -
Music I've heard and witnessed in concert have been most influential and fulfilling in my life. It regenerates me when I'm down or in need of guidance, and is a source of inspiration and joy. Cheesy perhaps, but I can trace it back to tons of pleasant memories spanning almost 3 decades.

You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president.
You realize that you control your own destiny.

It makes me happy when I do routes before other people or when I warm up on others peoples projects.

Does having the gym make you happy or does climbing in it?
That's like the chicken or the egg thing. Having it makes me happy because I can climb in it.

That can be a play on anything though. "Does having the Ferrari make you happy or is it driving it that does?" "Does owing the multi-million dollar mansion make you happy or does living in it?" "Does owning the diamond make you happy or does wearing it?"

I don't get it?

perhaps the home gym is a training ground, so when you crank outside you are happy. would you be happy if you only climbed at home, and never touched real rock?

Hell yea.

I heard on NPR once that money does make you happy. The guy even equated marriage to $100,000.00 a year's worth of happiness. So if you get married you will probably gain as much happiness as a $100K raise will give you.

You know, I've always been poor, but I've not always been happy.

Taking control of my own life made me happy.

Money is for spending on things, activities, and the people you love. If your money can help someone or a group (hint: PMRP), then money can make you happy!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.
