So the guy who won a Nobel prize in 2005 says that the mantra "Money won't buy you happiness" is complete bunk. He says money WILL buy you happiness, cause it beats being poor and allows a person to focus on issues bigger than mere existence and grinding out a living.
He goes on to say that the problem is that people think that money will buy them complete happiness, and they sacrifice relationships in search of more cash.
He also differentiates between spending money on comforts (plasma TV, new vehicle) and spending money on needs (taking your best friend to dinner, going on a vacation). He postulates that spending on real needs will bring lasting joy, and is proof that money does in fact buy happiness.
What have you spent money on that brought you lasting joy, or is this dude a complete moron?
Happiness....
Happiness....
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
being in a long distance relationship for the last couple years has required me to spend a reasonable amount of money traveling to see her. These trips bought me happiness but a lot of the other crap that I've spent my money on hasn't. I think the guy has a point, its just easily confused.

i spent a lot of $ on climbing - trips + gear = small fortune. but it has allowed me countless hours of great enjoyment & meeting some absolutely wonderful people. worth every penny.
i spent extra $ on a home - i could have bought something less expensive - but it brings me joy to have such a nice, comfortable space - plus it's right next door to awesome running trails.
i agree that the relationship between $ and happiness is easily confused. to me it's never how much, but what i do with what i have that's the important part.
