Patton is a genius. His innovation has revolutionized the concept of what conditions are climbable. The guy should get the Nobel for this.

It was nice and cool in Clear Creek Canyon. It got warm enough though for some rattle snakes to wish us farewell as we descended the trail.

alright, patton has that sensitive irish skin so his rule is 100, but for some of you maybe it is a 110 point rule depending on your skin toughness.

i also think that the rule has a sliding scale based on how hard you climb (i.e. - if you are cranking out 5.8s then maybe it is 140 points or more). For piggie, it may be 90 points or lower.

for me the 100 point rule works just fine (i suck so 130 point baseline, but subtract 30 for my tough native american skin).

and lurkist, i sense a little condescension (and maybe jealousy perhaps??) in the tone of your post. All I can say is that Patton and I will be seeing you so look out! i don't care if you are 6 foot 8 with a 60 inch reach, I am going to work you over like a 40 hour work week (well maybe a 37.5 hour work week). And you don't even want to know what patton is going to do to you (probably a hoo ride of some sort).

Admittedly, this weekend was rough on my sensitive Irish skin, so I may make my personal 175 point rule, but I doubt it. I just have to be sure to check for melanomas on a regular basis. :(

Patton would have framed his rule in deg C or absolute temperature, K. This can't be Jim's rule; Jim is a chemist.

oh it most certainly Jimbo's rule. But I think he dumbed it down for my inferior IQ, as I cannot do degK to degF conversions in my head. Additionally, I think the 310.9277778 Rule is not nearly as sexy.........
