ynot,
you want to mix it up...bring it on...you are just as sophmoric as lynne in your "attempt" to drag the debate down to your level...ooooh, how original to take some one's username and twist it....
you name the debate, set the parameters, and I'm in for 10 rounds. I've been there, done that, seen it all. You'll have nothing original to add...just like your worn out EB's that you actually hike to the crag in. Go tie a dew rag on your head, throw some cheap ass hexes on your swami, and remember the trad leader's mantra..."the leader must never fall"...dude, you are getting ready for a grounder...

I love your "quote" at the bottom of your posts. I couldn't agree more. hence, that is exactly the point i am trying to make here (one that has been made hundreds of times, but many forget).....I decided to take the "extreme" sport climber position, and knock all other forms of climbing. If we are under the impression that all opinions are valid (which I do not agree with), then this extreme attitude I am taking should be heard by the climbing community. it is no more or less valid than the all arounder, the boulderer, or the traditionalist.
Why are not all opinions valid? If I say copulation with animals in public places is my preference, would you feel a duty to shield your children from me? If I say I prefer droppping rocks from the top of busy crags, is that a valid opinion? Suffice to say, all so called "valid" opinions get to be weighed in the arena of public discourse. As the old argument goes, when I started climbing, pink point was inferior to redpointing. Working the moves on a gear route was considered cheap. You had to lower after each fall or "take" (which taking was consider sissy). Pinkpointing is not redpointing. if I assert the old standard, i am considered a quack. Isn't leaving the draws in place, or working a gear route without lowering bringing a route down to your level? Not by today's standards (for most people I am guessing.)
And back to the original argument. If I posit that sport climbing is superior to trad, that is an opinion..maybe valid, maybe not. But when the next "compassionate" individual asserts that all forms of climbing are equal, that also is an opinion....maybe valid, maybe not. This whole "let's love the world and all get along crap" is ludicrous.
For the environmentalist reading this, don't even get me started on that issue. if you ever tread a trail up to a crag, you are doing your part to destroy mother earth. real enviro's will stay home, eat vegimite sandwiches, buy no products made of wood or plastic, never drive their car alone, buy an electric car, take no more than their 200 square foot of living space on this earth, and never, ever buy pre packaged goods.....if you ain't doing it, then shut the he** up about environmental impact. You have an agenda, and then you mold your eco-friendliness to fit your selfish pursuits.
Tangential tirade for sure...but then again, this is the place to vent.

Nice one Pigsteak...that'll shut them all UP!!
I really LOVE your point about the environmentalist....so true!!
Dude I say we bring pinkpoint back and make redpointing what it use to be. Can you imagine trying to RP a route in the Madness cave while hanging the draws!! That would be the shit....I'm gonna go back and re-redpoint all my hardest 12's hanging the draws...who's with me

"Climbing is the spice, not the meal." ~ Lurkist
hey, if you get to leave the draws hanging on a sport route, then why can't I leave my trad pro in when going for a send? Isn't mine just as "valid" as the dude or dudette who places all gear on lead? Isn't a toprope send just as valid? Or a rehearsed flash...now that one I like....geesh, why all the hate? And to the guy who doesn't want me hanging at the crux for 30 minutes on the crux..why dear sir, i prefer to climb that way..who are you to tell me my opinion is wrong?
rhunt, I am assuming Lynne will tell you her TR ascent of C Sharp is just as valid as your send on the sharp end, hanging the draws....whatever floats yer boat people, but all things AREN'T equal...deal with it.
