Thanks Mike for your comments. For a quality route to be established it takes a vision for a line no matter what the grade. But with the higher grades it takes a special vision. How can you envision a radical line if you don't have the radical moves? I said before it sometimes takes fresh blood to break the local paradigm and like you Mike, I am looking forward to what the Roc Trip climbers can do and see on our stone.
"Be responsible for your actions and sensitive to the concerns of other visitors and land managers. ... Your reward is the opportunity to climb in one of the most beautiful areas in this part of the country." John H. Bronaugh
I climbed in Nevada in mid July and had to wear my down parka in the shade while belaying. Nevada is probably the only state in the US that has year round sport climbing at reasonable temps. Just my 2 more cents
I like Mike's observation about the fragile holds...so true of our soft sandstone.

you don't give yourself nearly enough credit kenny. it takes way more work than most can imagine. your efforts are tremendously respected...thank you.allah wrote:finding and drilling hard lines isnt that hard at all. find a cool looking partial blank wall/walls and start putting bolts in. thats all i do

okay, two things... first of all, paul, where did you get your population statistics? if you are talking about city populations, cincy+columbus=wayyy more than 1 million people
secondly, allah does put in a lot of work, and everyone around here appreciates it greatly. i just hope we don't get a bunch of climbers in here who leave spraying about the "overhanging crimp ladder" they got on.
everyone who has been putting in effort for the roc trip deserves mad credit! you are working so hard!!

tankazz,
got them from http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/. thought they were a little low, too, but if they're only going by corporate jurisdictions, could very well be true. but it doesn't really give the big idea. anyway, i think the principle still holds.
and i think some of the stuff that's been going up will definitely shake up the idea that the red is just a crimp ladder, thanks to kenny, kipp, ron, team suck.. just about everyone that's put effort into getting routes up.
