There is always something worse than being a gumby.

A gumby is someone that the moderators don't really know, so you
are welcome to the website but not really a member of the club.
I always wondered if how it is determined that you have been noticed, avatar changed, by posting a number of times? Or do you just need to hang out at Miguels and buy significant people a drink. .....or become a climber of competent reputation.

Is it necessary to be a member of the club? Are you happy to talk with others here and be a climber ? Are you making progress and having fun?
Or are you continously being nice but making utterly stupid mistakes that will get you killed and make a lot of people uncomfortable watching and wishing they were not in your company ? That is a gumby. Not really what your avatar might state. Personally, I would like to have mentors to learn from but that gumby thing is not necessarily who you are. Somebody said.....

I thought an avatar was a small bitmap or jpeg used by the members of the forum to distiguish(sp) themselves. Seems to me like "Gumby" is just a monicker given to you by the moderators. I don't think most of them have anything to do with how many times you post. And Gumby's not that bad. It could be worse, you could be called a "whiney Bitch".

I don't think that's it either. I've met and/or climbed with many of the early member's of this forum (the one's that posted on Climbkentucky). You have to do something to get it changed. It's like when you're out partying with friends and you do something stupid and earn a nickname that stays with you forever. Gumby is just a generic monicker that you get until you earn something more appropriate.
