And how many people continue to purchase climbing gear on line?

The smaller specialty shops, climbing included, have potential customers come in, try on shoes, test harnesses, check out gear only to have them walk out the door with the information they need regarding size, color, style, etc and buy on line. These shops are providing the service without benefitting from the purchase.

dammit, i had some passport credit with them, and i needed a rope. oh well. i definately like J&H and Miggies better anyway, although they had some cute chicks working there.

I think smaller specialty stores can do well if they provide great service. Look at John's. He has 4 stores now plus an associated podiatrist and his prices are higher than online, but people keep going to him for his employee's considerable running knowledge.

running knowledge? how difficult is running? put on foot in front of the other until you puke..pretty easy...can I now be a certified "running expert"?
