So, how's it work? The more tools that are brought to the JATD the more money the state gives the RRGCC? Tools of course being screwdrivers, hammers, etc.

Matt: Can you explain how this works, in laymans terms?

Yep, that's the basic idea......

Essentially we get to claim all resource (tools, volunteer man hours, paid consulting, etc.) for all of our efforts involved in the Recreational Trail Grant Proposal. In making the claim, the state government will match us 50% of total resource we provide.

So, we claim 50 man hours at the going rate of 8 bucks an hour (I cannot remember off hand the actual KY approved rate) then with a total of 400$ we get a check for $200 from the state.

This includes all resource we document -- man hours, equipment, dollars, all things involved in completing the trail project we proposed. We document and then submit the total breakdown and we get a check when the project is completed.

That's the way I understand it, not that that's saying much. It's the quick and dirty but I don't think we can count the kegs.

Aside from that Ryan and Paul both suk, but not as much as Piggie.

a little addition.we can only claim the tools that are actually able to be used for trail work and dont want to take advantage of the grant. so the big table saw , mechanics tools, levels and skill saw prob wont be a good claim but shovels, mattoks, pulaskis, chainsaws and so on will work and will help out the pmrp payment.

Thanks Matt for the simple and effective explanation for us plebians. Does the state prescribe different rates for different tools? Like a hammer's work for 2 hours is like $4 but a bosch drill is like $20 for two hours? Tell me more about this fascinating aspect of Non-Profits!

i will tell you what i know about the grant and people that have some book smarts will have to explain the fine print. tools and labor donated to the maintenance and building of new multi purpose use trails will be matched 50% from the RTP GOLD grant that the rrgcc received last year. most labor can be charged at minimum wage unless the labor is from a professional trade working in that trade. example would be a forester coming in and helping with large trees. tools are charged at retail rental rate. the grant is icing on the cake for this event and future events for the rrgcc. but imho the thing people need to see is that trails, routes and so on at the pmrp or any other area just dont magically appear. it takes a lot of work from people like johnny and alex. he believed events like this would get people excited to come out and help maintain the land we use , to make sure that its around for our kids to enjoy and to be honest he as most of us developers like to see people sweat and suffer a little. events like this also give a true sense of ownership to everyone involved. thats what this event is about. so help us keep this spirit alive and give back to everyone.
