For a web page that is all about the area that has the best SPORT climbing in the country, there sure is a lot of talk about trad climbing. Trad sucks at the Red go to the New!!
"Hookers and drugs man. Money can't buy happiness but it's really hard not to smile when you're in a cheap hotel room surrounded by hookers and drugs." ~ Charlie
Rhunt, in Bronaugh's (now outdated) guide there are 631 trad routes listed and only 355 sport routes, as well as 53 mixed (read: non-sport) routes. I don't know what the current numbers are, but there is far more trad here than sport. If you think trad at the New is better, suffice it to say that you have not tasted the Red River Gorge properly. We have beautiful cracks here. Having done most of my early climbing at the New, I say it blows compared to the Red, even though it's still damn nice. Of course the sport climbing here rules as well, but to say that the Red is "mostly a sport climbing area" is just plain incorrect.
Children, both places are good and both have their merits. I think that the trad at the New is a little better and the sport at the Red is a little better. Just my opinion. Both places have excellent sport and trad - it just depends on your personal preferances. Kinda what Lynne said, except that I don't think either place blows in comparison to the other.

I agree UBG. Both places rock for both sport and trad. And I am fortunate enough to live between the two. 8) Hell, the worst climb I ever did in my life didn't suck - you could be workin' for the man instead, ya' know.
