if we could have nuclear winter and global warming wouldnt it balance out? JK seriously though - even if evybody agrees theres global warming nobody is gonna do anything to stop it. are you going to not take that weekend gas guzzle to a destination and stay at home and ride your bike or climb at home instead? it's not easy let me tell ya. the most ive driven in two weeks used about three gallons of gas. i just dont agree with bitching about a situation then embracing the cause at the same time. One good thing as a cyclist - the higher gas prices go the nicer traffic is to me on my bike. now what about them lazy fucks who use welfare as a culture?

condomes past their expiration date is a serious problem that affects millions of young single males and should be addressed. Its not our fault that months of onanism, dry humping the bed, and lack of confidence cause our rapidly decaying top drawer friends from ever meeting anyone other than our he-man underoos.
So women, talk to your drunken hook up, make sure his dry spell has not been long, and for gods sakes, go gentle on a brutha.
This has been a public service announcement brought to you by your friends at the creationism museum

Too late, guys. All those awesome sci-fi movies have shown people how to deal with natural disasters of immense proportions. Find yourself a library in NYC, lock yourself in an obscure room, and you can pretty much weather any storm.

Pru wrote:I'm just as certain of Global Warming as I am of the ignorance of much of Rush Limbaugh's audience, but does anyone else think that perhaps this is just the normal cycle of the earth and also therefore a wake up call that our species is about done? Have we accelerated the process? Sure, but can we do anything to stop it at this point is the bigger question in my mind.

So in the spirit of positive thinking, does anyone else think Global Warming is a license to stop being concerned with which recreational drugs are addictive, how much fat is in that Big Mac and/or whether or not the condom has passed its expiration date?
That last question in the first paragraph haunts me as well, Pru. I think the answer is "no" but what we can do is make the result less awful for future generations.

The climate record goes back an awfully long way. It can even be traced in mineral deposits almost to the beginning of life on the planet. But the clearest records are in antarctic ice and go back through several ice ages. What has happened in the last 150 years or so usually takes over ten thousand years. Normally, eco-systems migrate during these swings in temperature but this is so fast that most life forms will be over taken and will become extinct. At this rate we are headed for the biggest mass extinction in the history of earth. This includes that first one when the earth was covered in life that found Oxygen to be a poison and than along came plants. It was ugly, I'm sure. So, though the earth has always gone through periodic cycles, this change is happening almost instantaneously and more drastically than anything that's come before.

My point with that long (and far too brief) synopsis is this: as far as the normal progression of things are concerned, we were actually headed into an ice age before we started burning everything we could to power industry and our way of life. So this is not the way things would normally go, sped up a little. We've flipped this puppy in reverse and hit the warp drive.

We, and by "we" I mean "humanity," must do in the next ten years or so is to move towards eliminating carbon emissions. This will require personal sacrifice and serious changes in behavior. We can either do this in an orderly fashion that causes the least stress on the most people or we can ignore it and cause incredible suffering for most people. In the meantime the wealthiest will remain mostly untouched until they can't find anything to buy to eat.

[On a side note, Firefox proves itself yet again. While home for lunch I typed most of this and then the power went off. When I started Firefox again, not only did it recall the sites I was on (including loading the new posts here) it remembered what I had typed in this window prior to the power outage! That's just amazing.]

isn't change like the power word of business and basically life now? global warming is change, embrace it, hug it, slip it some tongue and see what it does

yeah thats true but that welfare shit never changes - the liberals were the welfare to work people and the conservatives have been to meek to try to change it lately - that was once their old rally cry too. oh ...okay i see it - it is a change. :)
