Liberal Bias Cont'd
i gotta admit though i was a little dissapointed with the welfare situation - the conservatives missed the boat on that one big time. There's more freebies to wont weds n wont works and their offspring than ever and I thought that was part of their faith based agenda or whatever. yep ...really surprised me they didnt try to tackle that. I think it was because they wanted to draw votes out of the welfare line by being pro have-more-babies and against ...you know those other people. All in all it was an enlightening week. I did like like all the blonde haired people in the megachurch - they were purty!
yo piggy! The car thing is because im blaming supply and demand for the gas market price and not Bush - like you guys told me to - remember?

cool KD.....see, as a neo con you actually remember principles, and didn't vote on emotion.
for what it is worth, I happen to work quite a bit in a certain eastern kentucky, white bread county with perhaps the highest poverty level outside of true appalachia...I can verify they vote highly democratic, so the dem's fleecing is working. thank god the local elected officials have pulled these people up after 50 years straight of local democratic rule.
kd, it is time for you to return to your flock.

Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
So, uh, back to the "liberal bias" in media. I was listening to the most recent Science Friday on a podcast yesterday and it really struck me just how narrow the average American's view on the world is.
The arctic is melting, people.
"So what?" I hear most Americans ask.
So, the arctic is a pretty large portion of the northern hemisphere of the earth. In days gone by the arctic was mostly white from ice. White reflects light. Light from the sun is energy and if it is absorbed it becomes heat. One degree increase in the mean temperature means that a big swath of the arctic melts. Five degrees increase and most of the arctic melts. This has actually happened. You personally may not have noticed because the difference between 75 and 80 degrees isn't that much and it doesn't bother us very much if winter is milder than normal.
But in the arctic they really feel this. Entire villages have had to re-locate from where they have lived for thousands of years because the permafrost has thawed, the seas don't freeze completely any more, their houses collapse, the seashore is eaten away by sloshing ice blocks in the winter, and the roads that once sat on the rock-hard permafrost are giant mud puddles.
On this show there were several scientists. One studied glaciers. Another studied sea ice. Another studied weather. Another studied public health. Now let's extrapolate the knowledge we've got about this to the entire scientific community. These are people who have spent their entire lives learning about their field. They are not overweight assholes with a radio show and nothing more than a belief system. Scientists generally specialize in a single area of scientists and leave it up to others to connect the dots. There are millions of people in the world that are scientists. They gather data. Lots and lots of data. Other scientists make sure this data is "pure" while others examine this data from many different angles. Remember, all these people have college degrees (usually multiple) in their given field. Any way you look at the data, we humans are the cause of the extremely rapid and historically unprecedented increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere. There is no question for any of these millions of people that they've done what they do as best as can be done and the results are clear.
Rush Limbaugh can come on the air and blubber that there is no such thing as global warming and there is noone to contradict him. Why? Because he calls what he does "entertainment" instead of news so he can lie with impunity. His listeners believe him despite this.
So even Fox News has decided that global warming is real.
The fact that the lunatic right's denial of global warming was aired at all in the last twenty fucking years is clear proof that their view is over represented. Just because you're loud doesn't mean you're worth hearing.

I'm just as certain of Global Warming as I am of the ignorance of much of Rush Limbaugh's audience, but does anyone else think that perhaps this is just the normal cycle of the earth and also therefore a wake up call that our species is about done? Have we accelerated the process? Sure, but can we do anything to stop it at this point is the bigger question in my mind.
So in the spirit of positive thinking, does anyone else think Global Warming is a license to stop being concerned with which recreational drugs are addictive, how much fat is in that Big Mac and/or whether or not the condom has passed its expiration date?

This pretty much sums up my views.
