Johnny and Bob Kamps...

Post by 512OW »

This was fun to stumble upon...

Knowing how much John admired Bob Kamps, it was nice to see that he had taken him to some quality, unique climbs, and that they had climbed so much together over several years...

Go there, and under partner... choose John Bronaugh.

Bob & Johnny

Post by 88keys »

Guess I should post more often

We met Bob & Bonnie Kamps the day we put up Kampsight, way back in 1992. We were all starting up the trail at the same time. Bob & Johnny kept trying to be the last one up the trail. Finally, Johnny turned to him and said Are you Bob Kamps? Bob said yes and was surprised that some 'young buck' knew who he was. So, we climbed with them all day. We tried to have Bob do the first ascent of Kampsight but he said he has done plenty and didn't need to. So, he did the second ascent and we decided to name it after him.

After that day we struck up a wonderful friendship with both Bob and his beautiful wife Bonnie. We would visit them when we traveled to Cali and we would climb with them or just Bob on his yearly ventures to the Red. I was even fortunate enough to see them just after Johnny & Alex's deaths. But just before Bob past away. I'll always cherish the friendship we've had over the years - and the friendship which continues with Bonnie.
